What if I’m unemployed but I don’t qualify for traditional unemployment (I worked part-time, I’m self- employed, or another reason.)?
Answer
If you are unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable or unavailable to work due to COVID-19 related reasons, as defined in the CARES Act you may qualify for Pennsylvania’s Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). PUA is a federal program that provides payment to workers not traditionally eligible for unemployment benefits (self-employed, independent contractors, workers with limited work history, and others) who are unable to work as a direct result of the coronavirus public health emergency
What you’ll need to apply:
- Social Security Number
- Work History (for the past year and a half), including earnings
- All your personal contact information
Go to https://pua.benefits.uc.pa.gov/vosnet/Default.aspx to begin your application.
If you are approved for PUA you will need to file a biweekly claim, similarly to traditional unemployment.
