How do I get a library card if I don't live in Allegheny County?

Answer

Anyone can apply for a library card online even if they do not live in Allegheny county. Pennsylvania residents are eligible for a free library card. Non-Pennsylvania residents must pay a $30.00 out-of-state fee every 2 years for the library card to remain active.

You can apply for a temporary card online. This card will remain active for 30 days. To receive a permanent physical card, residents living outside of Allegheny County must visit a library within Allegheny County with ID to complete registration. Those that cannot make it to a branch may confirm the account over the phone, by calling 412-622-3114. Please also see our Get a Library Card page for more details.

Did you know that real-time assistance is available from Library staff 5 days a week through website chat and by phone (412.622.3114)?
