How do I request a book through Interlibrary Loan?
Answer
The first step for requesting a book through Interlibrary Loan is to make an account with Interlibrary Loan. To do this you will need your library card barcode number. You can make an Interlibrary Loan Account by filling out this form.
- If you have previously had an account but cannot remember your password you reset it here or email ill@carnegielibrary.org.
Now that you have access to an interlibrary loan account you can log-in to Interlibrary Loan to make your request. Under "New Request" you can choose what type of material you are requesting.
Now you are ready to fill out the request form.
You do not have to complete every blank in the form, but the information you include will help us connect you with the correct material.
To fill out the form we recommend searching for the material you would like to request in WorldCat.
WorldCat is an online database of materials held by libraries around the world. WorldCat's database will list the material's ISBN and OCLC numbers which you can include on the request form. While these numbers are not required they do help our staff fill the request more quickly.
Typically Interlibrary Loan requests take longer than regular hold requests, so please be patient once your request is made. We will contact you once your requested material is ready or if we are not able to fulfill the request. You can contact the Interlibrary Loan office at ill@carnegielibrary.org or 412.920.4535 if you have any questions or need further assistance.
