How and when can I get a COVID-19 vaccine?

Answer

At this time the COVID-19 vaccine is being provided to all individuals over the age of 16.

The Commonwealth of PA has created a web page where you can find a vaccine provider using an interactive map along with contacting a provider to schedule an appointment. Visit https://www.pa.gov/guides/get-vaccinated to learn more.

Allegheny County Health Department has created a new Vaccine Registration site. Individuals seeking vaccine appointments may register online at http://vax4.alleghenycounty.us for available eventsYou can find out more information about vaccine distribution in Allegheny County by sign-up for alerts from the Allegheny County Health Department.

When appointments are available, Allegheny County residents who are unable to access the internet can call 2-1-1 (a service provided by the United Way) to register for an appointment. 211 will never ask for your credit card information. If you speak with someone who does, hang up and call again. This line is also available to answer COVID-related questions from the public.

You can make an appointment for a vaccine with a vaccine provider. Currently vaccine providers in Pennsylvania include some local pharmacies, RiteAid, CVS, Giant Eagle, and hospitals. Each vaccine provider has its own scheduling application.

If you are a senior and have questions about local vaccine availability and how to make an appointment may call the Department of Health hotline at 877-724-3258. Additionally:

  • Depending on capacity and resources, a local Area Agency on Aging can provide guidance and support, and assistance with scheduling and transportation.
  • PACE, the state's low-cost prescription program, is another resource that can help seniors get the vaccine. PACE has a dedicated team of phone operators who can answer calls to arrange vaccine appointments and transportation for cardholders. If an at-home vaccination is necessary, they can work with PACE pharmacy network members on that.
  • PA Link to Aging and Disability Resources is also an option. Seniors who don't have access to a computer may call 800-753-8827 for assistance.
