What is BookFLIX and how can I use it?

Answer

BookFLIX is a service that CLP offers for children and families that pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction books, offering an engaging way to link fact and fiction, reinforce early reading skills and introduce children to a world of knowledge and exploration.

You can access BookFLIX here on our website.

When you open BookFLIX, you can either watch an introductory tutorial by clicking "START" or you can begin using it right away by clicking "Skip Intro."

When you reach the home page, it will look like this and there a a couple things you can do.

You can click on "Featured Pair" and read the books that BookFLIX has highlighted, or you can choose a subject you are interested in. If you choose a subject like "Animals and Nature" pictured below. You have a lot of different pairs of books to choose from. The red ribbon around the top left-hand corner of each pair indicated that the titles are also available in Spanish.

Choose a pair of books and click on them to explore both fact and fiction. You'll see that there are many options for reading, watching, and playing games related to each book along the left side of the screen.

When you "Watch the Story", you have the option to read along with the text of the book or just watch the animated story without words. When you read the nonfiction book, important vocabulary words are highlighted. Each game under "Puzzlers!" is based on what happens or the facts in the two books, so be sure to read them first before you play. You can also explore each topic further by choosing the options under "Dive Deeper."

On the top right-hand side of the screen are a few more features we want to share with you.

If there is a book you are looking for specifically, you can type it's title or a keyword into the "Title Search" bar. You can also click the "Español" button to limit the books you see to those in Spanish. Finally, the circular button with an apple and a book on the far right links to information and resources for teachers and caregivers about each book on BookFLIX.

Teachers and caregivers can filter by Theme, Category, Length of Video, Labels, and Grade Level. All of the information is listed below each title as well.

We hope that children and caregivers will have fun exploring the stories and worlds offered through BookFLIX!
